Pink Season

"Pink Season" was the name of an album George Miller made before growing up a bit. I think nearly everyone my age remembers watching the adventures of Pink Guy and Filthy Frank, before YouTube became family friendly. It seems that he grew out of this bad humour as we did, and put more focus on his Joji music. I do listen to his music created under the "Joji" name (now released on 88rising label), however Filthy Frank carries a twisted sense of youthful nostalgia so inspires the title of this page and work.

Pink Season: News

Japanese pop music videos have a wild and bright surrealist style, often full of bright pinks and pastel blues, containing many interesting characters. One of my favourite videos to look at is PONPONPON by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

I have used YouTube as a tool to create a playlist of Asian music videos which I find have crazy and inspirational imagery.

Access to foreign media is part of the internet age and a symptom of globalisation, which I have looked into during my research into the theme of Vaporwave – the subject on which I wrote my dissertation, influencing my work.

Part of the digital collage images on this page are Vaporwave influenced, and some are meant to be "Kawaii", "the culture of cuteness in Japan".

Pink is one of the colours used in Vaporwave, which also normally contains blues and purples.

I painted all my toys with pink. At first it was just pink, but then I felt the need to add some purples and a very small amount of blue, in order to have some visual texture and definition between the parts in the electrical toys. Read more on the Musical Toys page.
